Cozumel for the little ones

Where to take kids between 3 and 10 on the island, which of our tours they can join, and the small things that make the difference between a great day and a meltdown at noon.

The best spots on the island for kids

Picked for short attention spans and small legs: shade, shallow water, animals to look at and somewhere to sit down.

    West coast, south of town

    Chankanaab Park

    Ages 3 to 10

Sea lion show, gardens full of iguanas, a playground and a calm beach. Everything in one fenced park, so nobody wanders off.

Parent tip: Get there at opening time to grab a shaded palapa before the tour groups arrive, and bring sand toys.

  2. Illustrative image: Punta Sur Eco Beach Park2

    The island's southern tip

    Punta Sur Eco Beach Park

    Ages 5 to 10

A viewing tower over Colombia Lagoon to spot crocodiles and herons, the lighthouse with its small museum, and a wild beach at the end of the road.

Parent tip: It's a long, sunny day: pack water, snacks and hats. Nobody swims in the lagoon — it belongs to the crocodiles.

  3. Illustrative image: Discover Mexico Park3

Next to the Puerta Maya pier

    Discover Mexico Park

    Ages 4 to 10

Scale models of pyramids and cities from all over Mexico in a tropical garden, plus hands-on workshops like chocolate making.

Parent tip: It's a short walk from Puerta Maya, so it's an easy win when you come off a cruise with small kids.

  4. Illustrative image: Paradise Beach4

    West coast beach club

    Paradise Beach

    Ages 5 to 10

A floating inflatable playground with slides and climbing walls in calm, shallow water — the best way to burn energy on the island.

Parent tip: The inflatables are a separate pass that includes life vests. For 3 to 5-year-olds, the shallow edge is plenty.

  5. Illustrative image: Sky Reef5

    West coast beach club

    Sky Reef

    Ages 6 to 10

A real reef a few meters from the beach: colorful fish and maybe a turtle without getting on a boat. The best first snorkel there is.

Parent tip: Life vest, a mask that fits their face and you right beside them. The little ones are happy digging in the sand.

  6. Illustrative image: Museo de la Isla de Cozumel6

    Downtown waterfront

Museo de la Isla de Cozumel

    Ages 5 to 10

Interactive rooms about the reef, the island's animals and its Maya past. A short visit that explains everything they'll see outside.

Parent tip: Save it for the hottest hour of the day. It's closed on Mondays.

  7. Illustrative image: El Cielo7

Sandbar off the west coast, by boat

    El Cielo

    Ages 6 to 10

Knee-deep crystal water over white sand, dotted with sea stars. It looks like an aquarium they can stand in.

Parent tip: Look, don't touch: lifting a sea star out of the water can kill it. Some boats set a minimum age — ask before you book.

  8. Illustrative image: Plaza Benito Juárez at sunset8

    Downtown San Miguel

    Plaza Benito Juárez at sunset

    All ages

The main square comes alive in the evening: the kiosk, ice cream, room to run and families everywhere. Free and a few blocks from the waterfront.

Parent tip: Go when the heat breaks, around sunset, and end the day with a walk along the malecón.

Our tours kids can join
